Items Patients Need to Bring to Visit
Patients should bring insurance cards, photo ID, and list of current medications, all X-rays, MRI’s and other scans relevant to their condition. Please bring the actual films or CD, not just the reports. Previous operative reports and photographs are very helpful.
Pre-Surgical Preparation
Nothing to eat or drink 8 hours prior to surgery, except necessary medications with a sip of water. Arrange for a ride to and from the hospital. Wear comfortable clothes. If you already own crutches or a walker and plan on using them after surgery, bring them with you. Notify your family physician and your health plan. If you are having joint replacement surgery, discharge plans (i.e., inpatient rehab or home health) can be arranged preoperatively.
Post-Operative Information
You will be discharged with a sheet of post-operative instructions. Please refer to them often in the first few days. You will be discharged with prescriptions for medications. Please make arrangements to have these picked-up or delivered. Ice bags to the operative area generally help to decrease pain. Call for medication refills during normal office hours when we have access to your chart. We do not refill prescriptions on nights and weekends.
After Hours Process
We can be reached via our answering service at any time 209-224-2720. Routine messages will be answered when the office opens, and the doctor on call can be paged for emergencies. If you are unable to reach the doctor on call during an emergency, please go to your local emergency room or call 911.
